Question ????

Hi Everybody,
I have a question for those of you who breed Fish, Shrimp Etc., ... Do you breed fish for yourselves and the love of the hobby? Do you breed fish to sell them? If so, who do you sell them to? LFS, Online, Locally?

Just have some thoughts bouncing around in my head and I am curious about the few things listed above so if you would be so kind as to respond, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

I breed fish and sell them locally. My LFS's wont take them not even for store credit (most of the time) because of some corporate mumbo-jumbo about introducing disease into their tanks...talk about ironic. A few of my stores took my information down and give them out to customers who are looking for the fish i breed. so far ive made enough to upgrade my 55gal to a 75gal with a new stand, and am currently working on getting a new light system for their new tank.

sometimes big chain stores will take them but you need to have a good relationship with the people in charge of the fish departments and depending on who is working and in charge they may take them.

That is ironic about introducing diseases into the LFS tanks. I trust my home tank more than I do any LFS tank any day. Sounds like you are doing quite well with your sales since you have been able to upgrade your tank. That's one great way of using your profit.

I don't really have any Fish Stores near me. The closest one is PetSmart and I'm sure they wouldn't be interested if I had any fish to offer them. There was a Petland that used to be down the street from me that would take fish from customers but as soon as I started to really get into this hobby they closed down. It must have been in operation for over 30 years before I started fishkeeping and they had a huge selection of fish. Just my luck!

ide try googling for some mom and pop type stores. in my area there is two big box style stores, and ive found 5 more stores within a 30min drive i never knew existed.
all i googled was fish stores in (your area code) and aquarium stores (your area code) and between them found some useful stores
