I'am new to this hobby.
What do I do with her now?
I would like to try to keep the fry, any help would be great.

Hello

Dont do anything to her. If you want to help the fry survive, just put in a very good handfull of swimming plants like Hornwort or Egeria (or both) into your tank.

The fry can hide in it, and you have a good chance that a few will survive.

What else do you have in your tank and what size is it?

If you have a lot of cover, plants, places to hide, it's likely that some of the fry will survive all on their own. Be careful though that your tank doesn't become overstocked, it can happen pretty quick with livebearers.

If your tank has sufficient cover, you can leave the mother alone in the tank. Just feed her regularly with high protein diet and there shouldn't be any problems.

The next question is, how did she become pregnant? If there is another male in the aquarium, this is going to be a regular occurence. If you bought her pregnant, well it depends, but she'll eventually run out of stored sperm and stop becoming pregnant.

Added to Nanaglen's advice - make sure you feed the fry special food - don't use the same food you are using for adults. A good local fish shop should have some foods for fry - powders, micro-flakes, etc. Ask.

Plenty of hiding places - I turned some rocks upside down with my platies, so that the fry could hide there but no-one else could go down the tunnels / get in the caves.

And you'll have to start doing more water changes. More bodies = more food put in tank = more waste = quicker buildup of bad water.

I too have platy fry. I put mine into their own tank as the filter in the bigger tank was too powerful. Feed them baby brine shrimp, it's cheap and most pet stores have it in their frozen foods section. Water needs to be in pristine condition. I hate the idea of leaving them in a tank w/gravel as they tend to bury themselves under it and never get anything to eat.
