Ok so I am wanting to get a Green Terror... can anyone tell me a little bit about them? I want to put one in a 55 gallon... I have lots of artificial plants and little decorations and regular gravel in the bottom...

A few questions-

1. Does the substrate have to be sand or can I get away with using the gravel I already have?

2. Does it matter if I put in 1 male or 1 female? I only plan to keep one as I have read that a 55 gallon is too small for 2...

3. Are all of the artificial plants okay? What other types of decorations do they prefer? (pots, rocks, wood, etc.)

4. Is there anything else suitable for a tank mate?

Thanks a bunch!

The males are more colorful

You could keep it with a fish that will get to be a similar size/temperment- but you're tank is too small.

Artificial plants are fine and the substrate should be OK too.

It would probably enjoy some rocks for cover, and driftwood as well.

All should be ok but keep in mind that all your artificial plants will likely be floating sooner then later. Cichlids (especially sa ca in my opinion) enjoy destroying your aquascaping as a way to pass time. They are very cool fish but in a 55i would think that tankmates might be a bad idea. The 55 may seem big but when you start adding big potentially agressive cichlids it will get small fast.

Green Terrors are cool. Mine doesn't need much cover, probably only when she sleeps. You could put in some other community type fish that will get big enough not to be eaten.

Have you considered a acara ?

They look very simular to a green terror but they are a lot more peacefull and usally are pretty good community fish. If its just the look of a terror you want, look into a acara. You have more options for stocking other fish

As ithers have stated, a 55 gallon will be on the small size for a terror.
