My Cardinal Tetras tend to be most active starting around 8 pm when they swim all over the tank. Usually during the day they stay behind the plants and don't venture out too much. Are they known to be more active at night or is it just my Cardinals?

Mine are most active when I feed, or when they think I'm going to feed. They do like to chill in the plants (my rummynose hang out in the plants as well).

Cardinal tetras are black water fishes, that is, they live in dark tea colored water from massive amounts of tannins from vegetative decay in nature. That's why they hide in the day and are more active in the evenings; it's darker out. Cardinals actually prefer dim conditions.
