I thundered around in the woods yesterday and found some dead branches. I dragged home enough for about a 500 gallon tank. What was I thinking? I'm happy to report that I didn't wake up with poison ivy since I was walking in ferns up to my knees only with sandals on. :c12: Well, I did have clothes on!

Found a big pile of white stones. Don't know what they are but they look like marble. Will have to do the acid test on them but they are very shiny and sparkley and pure white.

I don't know about getting the dead bark off these branches. Guess I will spend the afternoon sitting outside scrapping them and see how that goes. It probably will be a wasted adventure and no doubt I will change my mind about even using them after spending hours scrapping off the bark.

I'm thinking of adding some rocks to my tank and was wondering about limestone. We have tons of it just laying around here. I assume that limestone would raise the ph of the water. It that right?

What's the acid test? Drop some vinegar on it and see if it bubbles, right?

yeah thats the acid test. But if your scared of it raising your ph too high counldn't you just add soem PHDown ?

What we don't want is raising the pH just to lower it with chemicals. It's easier to just find other rock.

Cool hobbs!

Limestone is not aquarium friendly

Ok, no limestone for sure then.
