im looking at buying a 500w metal halide lighting for a 55 gallon aquarium...its 48 inches long so it is built for 55 gallons. i am going to be keeping LPS corals,SPS corals and soft corals. so if 500w for a 55 gallon is to much can anyone recommend amount of wattage?

Thats what I have on our 75 which is the same depth as a 55 and its great. We have 2 250 watt pendants and not a fixture though, but same thing. We have a ton of sps and it grows great on the sand and on the rocks. We also have 2 nice clams on the sand, a dersa and a higher light loving croeca and both grow like weeds. Just be sure to acclimate everything to the light before putting it up higher and you'll need to keep the tank cool, either with a fan, ac, or chiller
