i was roaming around an aquarium plant forum, and saw an ad with this:

it looks like an apistogramma type, but i'm clueless to what kind it is.

It is a Apistogramma cacatuoides, a dwarf cockatoo. They are amazing fish bred in many different varieties. it is also one of the easiest apistos to keep. That one looks like a triple red, but I am not the best on apisto varieties.

i would of guessed it was! i was shocked when i saw the coloration, since i'm used to the double red cockatoo more.

that is a double red, just very mature and an excellent specimen with above average coloration.
red = only tail
double red = tail and latter part of dorsal fin
triple red = tail, latter part of dorsal fin and anal fin.
all will produce the blue hue around the cheeks.
