compatability with a Jack Dempsey

My Jack Dempsey is currently in a 55 gallon tank so is there any fish i could put in with my Jack Dempsey? Also would i be able to any shrimp in with him without them being harmed?

Shrimp will more than likely get eaten, I've had my jack's eat live, large crawdad. Good luck.

In a 55G no additional fish is suitable for keeping with them, they should be kept alone in a tank that size. Your shrimp would also be eaten so I would not put them in there either. How large is your JD?

he is about 3 inches. and i know i shouldn't say this but (blush) the tanks looks so empty that's why i asked :14: . so with that being said do you know of any inhabitants that would make the tank look not so empty, if any?

Jack's grow pretty fast, I have a breeding pair in a 45G right now and thats probably too small for them. If you must have that jack I'd say get some fake plants, since they love rearranging tanks, and let it be at that plus it wont look so empty. Or you can always trade him in to your LFS and get some other cichlids, maybe a few dwarfs or stay open to some other suggestions, this is a great site for stocking tips and help in general.

Agree with Jenn. Since your guy is only 3" you may be able to keep some tough dithers (barbs), but be ready to move them when aggression hits and he decides the entire tank is his. I would not add any cichlids to a JD in a 55g.
