I know - dumb question...but my bucket of salt has no mixing directions...neither does my RSM manual...

How much do I add per gallon to get it roughly to where it needs to be?

My bag of instant ocean says .5 cups per gallon. or 1.5 Lbs per 5 gallons.

Thank you! Good to know!

...so for 34 gallons I'll need roughly 17 cups...guess I'll add just a little less and see what the SG is...and then add bits more until I get it right...

Thanks!!! :c3:

LOL...thanks anyway! I added 16 cups, which brought the SG to just below 1.022...so I'll leave well enough alone...

I did NOT season my hydrometre for 24 hours though...so I will...and I'll remeasure tomorrow...

Now I'm rinsing aragonite...or trying to...not sure the fastest and bestest way to do it...so I'm doing it the slow way...3/4 of a bucket at a time...

I've already rinsed the first installation about 7 times and it's still not remotely clear...

im happy with my crushed shell cleaning wise. you rinse it under the tap for five minutes then it magically runs pure clear. my 7g has a mix of white sand and crushed shell, and my 33g has pure crushed shell

Not sure what brand I have...all I know is that I opted for the slightly coarser substrate...

...then how do I get it in the tank? Just drop it in from the top?

I used a plastic cup and scooped it in to the bottom, so i didnt risk any scratching.

...it stays in the cup? I didn't think it would...

And would it scratch the glass? It's so light and fine...each bit I mean...

I dont know if it would scratch the glass, but if it was able to, i wasnt going to give it the opportunity.

...gave up with rinsing it really well...put in 30 lbs of substrate (the display portion is 29g) ...only rinsed each batch 5-7 times...and dumped it gently from the top of the tank...

...then I smoothed it out on the bottom...hope it's relatively level...couldn't see a thing...

...now I'm looking at sandstorm...

my substrate takes about 15 hours to settle after it rinses clean
