Hi all. I'm new here and just wanted to ask:
What kind of fish can I get with a betta on the same tank?

I heard that Discuss and Angelfish can. But later I heard that Angelfish can't. I want to find some good fish to be with my lonely betta.

betta will work with most other fish. should be fine with angel, guppys, swordtail plus lot more. do not put any cichlids with him, other than angel. because they might killed him!!

Rollias is right. You can keep bettas with most community fish as long as you avoid fin nippers.

Nice :)

That is nice to know for the future about bettas...they are beautiful fish but I have stayed away from them because I don't know enough about them, except for the fact that males fight with each other.

plus the males will killed the female after spawning. so do not keep males and females together!

Thats only true if you breed them in small aquariums. The male will protect the eggs from everyone including the female who might get killed if the aquarium is small and she can't hide. It is however good to remove the female as soon as the sawning is completed.

I have heard something about that. And even when I have thought on breed them I'm not so sure now...

I read about the betta. How can I get more info about all kind of betta. Also I didn't know there were more betta.

04-27-2006, 04:38 PM
there are quite a few different types or kinds of betta. the betta splendens(siamese fighting fish) is the most popler one. the others kinds can be hard to get at times.

You can read about most of the species by following the link below:
Betta Species (http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/encyclopedia-terms1-B.html)

Or did you want info about the different finnage etc that are found in Betta splendens.

The link that you gave me it's what I wanted. Anyway I have read about the different fins and that stuff but some of them I couldn't find the difference. (when I see the images)

Thanks to everyone for helping me with the tank mates for my betta. I added 5 angels and even when I got some problems (it was more that I was worry for some common behavior) they are all rgiht.

Follow this to see them (http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/ftopicp-4675.html#4675) I put pics of them on this forum (on other topic).

K I am new too and found this forum simply to ask this question but I have another question on top of this. You say that they can go with other fish (which is more than I knew before) but I was looking at Pets Mart at other fish and the requirements and needs of the fish and some require aquarium salt and some have other needs than the basic male betta... how do the other needs of other fish effect the betta (if at all)?

freshwater fish don't require salt even if it is sometimes suggested.

Additional needs are usally not a problem, conflicting needs are. Bettas can handle a little salt.
