just realised that just as my tank will cycle i am going on holiday for a week.what do you think the best way of keeping the ammonia going into water would be while i was gone.

I would use Ammo-Lock.. it neutalizes the ammonia, but it doesnt remove it so that the bacteria can eat it..... good stuff

How close is your cycle to being complete?

If you are still adding ammonia daily you may be able to use a shrimp peel to keep the ammonia up while you are gone.

about a week away.could get some fish in and have someone feed them but to be honest i wouldnt trust anyone to do it properly.unless if it would be possible to add a pleco and have algae wafers/drops etc for feeding.good chance there would be no food left over as its a new tank with no algae yet.

I will be in the same boat soon. I am not setting my expectations too high. When I get back from holiday, whatever state the tank is in, I'll fix it. At least there are no fish in it yet, so no one is suffering. Plus I wouldn't want to miss the first week of fish by having someone else do it.

The shrimp peel sounds like a good idea. I also saw in another thread that someone buried a dead fish from the grocery store. Sounds a little weird, though.

if you have more tanks vacuum the tanks gravel, then add the waste to the cycling tank for ammonia. i even cycle my tank like that

if no fish are recommended then i will maybe try shrimp while i am away or tp the tank up with amm chlor, thats what i have been using.just bought another internal filter for tank, that should help with everything
