I could be wrong here so probably best to ask someone wiser. But the guy I bought my Demasoni off told me ordinary rocks from your backyard can be used if you scrub them up and boil them.

Please ask someone else (lady Hobbs??) if this is safe before trying it.

If you dont want to boil them, soak them in a very salty mix of water and table salt. Itll kill all the parisites and bugs and stuff. Scrub REALLY good, and do the vinegar test as well

Actually, I read somewhere to not boil them as it seems they can heat up enough and explode. I scrub my rocks, put them in a pan or bowl and pour vinegar on them. If they bubble, don't use them.

I have actually added them to the tank just after cleaning. You will see a small stream of bubbles come from the rock and that also tells you to not use them. I do feel better using the acid test with vinegar, tho. I've gotten tons of rocks from outside and I think there's been only two I haven't been able to use.
