java moss pearling

I got some lovely java moss from korith this week that is now pearling. I thought you had to have CO2 to have pearling. At least that's what I've been lead to believe.

No that's a common misconception. Given the proper conditions you can get plants to pearl without CO2. Usually it takes a lot of light, some ferts and some really healthy plants. I've had java moss and hygros both pearl without CO2 running in the tank.

Agree with nic, as long as the plants have a good carbon source you can get pearling. Though I really haven't noticed much pearling in the tanks I have other than the one with co2.
