I saw a photo of this fish, and I am trying to find our more about it.
It is Ex-Cichlasoma pearsei, I never saw a Ex in front of the Latin name? Are they available here in the States?

i dont know, but if you do find some i want one. Those are some awesome looking cichlids.
Is the common name for this fish the pantano cichlid?
"They are sometimes referred to as Herichthys species, but are indeed members of genus Cichlasoma."
If so, Thatpetplace did have them in stock...

Maybe send them an email?
It seems this fish isn't all that common in the hobby - perhaps you could check with some general cichlid breeders in your state/region?
(No idea what's with the "ex", by the way...I mean, in Latin it translated to out (of) or from...so maybe it is used to note which genus the fish comes "out" of?)

A quick google search brings up this page ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]).
I don't know if it's the case here but the only time I've seen 'ex' in front of a latin name is after a re-classification. Many animal species were originally classified in the 1920s and 30s, prior to genetic testing. As a result although the animals may look similar they may not be as related as their names indicate. In the last decade many fish species have been reclassified to more accurately represent their family/class/genius etc. When this happens the animals are typically given a new latin names however if a specific family/class/genius is removed from official classifications sometimes not all species are given new names right away. This may or may not be what's happening here however.
