I got the CRAZIEST small tank in the world for a amazing price.
Aquagiant had a 10g acrylic cube salt tank with 3 gallons being a CRAZY in-tank sump with 50/50 light. the tank originally was 150$, but someone broke into it and stole the water conditioner, heater, net, and food, so it was $49.99 and they wanted to get rid of it.
what fish could go in a tank that small? with the sump, its 7g of actual fish space. im planning on 7lbs LR and maybe a small hardy coral and shrimp. what fish though would work??

i read on other peoples small 10g and under tanks and someone with a 7.5g had a perecula clown. apparently it isnt really cruel to stick them in there. i might consider that and move him to the 33 when hes bigger. also, i heard small gobys are fine
...I dunno...you have way more experience than me...I'm just reading still...but I think the nano-tanks do best with just inverts...

i think if I can handle the tank parameters i should be fine. ive seen CRAZY 7g's, like this one. the first is a 5.5g, and the second one a 7g. DAAAAAMMMM, the 7g's nice!

Stick to crabs, snails, shrimp, and bristle worms. That is a pretty cool tank, but what makes it so "CRAZY'? lol
Do shrooms man. I think i can propegate mine, they are about 4 inches when fully extended. wanna buy some? lol

ive got PLEN-TAY of shrooms! i bought a huge LR piece with 15 shrooms on it for my 33g.
The 10g has a SICK sump. it has so many thingamajiggers it took the guy forever to install it for me. this tank is gonna have live sand. the crushed shell in my 33g is kinda fugly after a while

after filling it, i got it set up. surprisingly the sump worked the first time around. the flow is good and the lights are nice and bright. i would get pics but i had to lend someone my camera while they go on a trip. tomorrow im gonna get some LR to cycle the tank

id kinda feel guilty puting in a oscellaris, but a percula is a good maybe
kkyyllee
06-21-2007, 06:06 AM
yeah, ocellaris should be off that list cause they get bigger
cocoa_pleco

and i would be restricted to hard corals i guess. its too small to get in powerheads, and the only flow is from the sump which is 2 spraybars from the top

Gez cocoa, now you have me wanting to go back to the blue background! Your tanks look very nice, clean and organized. Good job.

and i can hide all the equipment! the heater is stored at the back in the sump

you mean you couldnt do hard corals right?
Drumachine09
06-21-2007, 06:50 PM
Yeah, cocoa, hard corals like SPS and LPS need LOTS of flow. Stick to shrooms and maybe some zooanthids. Dont cheap out and by the dull colored zoos, buy the neon ones.
What kinda lighting did they give you?
kkyyllee
06-21-2007, 06:54 PM
lps and sps need lots of light too, usually metal halide (mainly sps)

are you gonna keep cheato in the back part of the tank for filtration?

06-21-2007, 07:17 PM
the tank has 50/50 and theres gonna be live sand in the sump and some LR there too. i just bought a measly 3lbs to cycle the tank.
I also saw a compact 100W light at the store for 100$

great, a stupid bristle worm got hold of my finger. it was tiny, so i only got a few splinters in my finger. It DOES hurt getting pricked!

06-21-2007, 07:29 PM
how many watts is the light? 3lbs of what?

60 watts and 3lbs of LR with a pi$$ed off bristleworm. if i can somehow get the 100W to go under my hood i may buy it, but thats overkill
kkyyllee
06-21-2007, 07:34 PM
60 watts you could keep almost anytihng but you don't have enough flow for most corals...why cant you add a power head?
cocoa_pleco
06-21-2007, 07:55 PM
a powerhead would bulkify things too much. can you name any low flow corals besides mushrooms?
kkyyllee
06-21-2007, 08:22 PM
zoanthids and palys

i was placing the LR in the tank bare-handed, and with the last piece i felt a sting and thought i just jabbed my hand on a sharp piece of rock. i then saw the little bugger hiding in the LR and a bunch of blackish needles in my finger

Soak it in vinegar. It disolves the spines.

dammit, right after i lose half my finger over tweezers.
I'll still soak it to make sure though

If you don't have vinegar on hand you can always use duct tape to pull the bristles out with!
On those pics of the nano's...they look cool now but I bet they don't look the same in the near future!! The first one is just plain overstocked, that's a maroon clown in there! They get big (6" ) and mean and this one is shoved in a 5g? Not to mention that's a dottyback - they are well known to be shrimp killers - and there's a cleaner shrimp in that tank too.... :c11: The second tank has a nice bubble tip anemone. I will guarantee that the anemone is already stinging the corals in the tank and unless it is moved out of there it will die. They get big, need at least a 55g for one and in that small tank when the other corals start dying from it's sting, the water quality will go down and down....
In a small tank you need small fish. You have approx. 7g's of swimming room. Firefish are nice, or any small goby with the exception of catalina gobies which are coldwater fish. They really need temps in the low 70º's to survive for any length of time. One small fish will be your limit but you could keep some awesome inverts! As far as corals, you could get any of the polyps, button, mushroom corals (with the exception of elephant ear mushrooms which are fish eaters anyway and not something anybody would want!).
Can't wait to see pics!!

06-22-2007, 03:50 PM
hmmm, maybe a perecula or a firefish again.
odd thing. my tank is in the basement where the air is a very stable temp and the tank has kept itself between 78.7 and 79.1 (i use a digital thermometer for my salt tanks) for a few days.
as for those nano-reef pics i put on, i had the persons permission to stick them, and they do look overcrowded. it looks nice for now, but like you said later somethings gonna happen

that was NO fun. whenever i pressed down my index finger, i got a sharp pain. of course, yet another bristleworm thorn. i soaked it in vinegar for a hour, nothing. I got really pi$$ed and went king kong with tweezers and after losing half my skin i think its out. dam bristleworms
...is self-surgery illegal?...
cocoa_pleco
06-23-2007, 04:14 AM
lol, it should be! so far no jolts of pain in the finger so i think i have them all out. now im scared to handle LR by hand

does 7lbs LR, 1 perecula, 2 turbo snails, 2 hermits, and a small 30-60$ shrimp and a coral sound okay?

ouch. you could have actually used vinegar. Dissolves the bristles right out - no need for tweezers

the last thorn was ultra-thorn and wouldn't dissolve. i sat with my finger in vinegar for over a hour and it never worked, so i ripped out my skin. for sure i got it out now at least
