View Full Version : Plastic Plants

Just set up a 55g with Cichlids and a Blue Gourami. I've got plastic plants and the tops of them are turning brown. I've cut the brown off but more of the plant turns brown. I thought maybe it was from the light, but now I'm not so sure. Any thoughts???

Brown algae. cutting it off wont do anygood but leave you short stubby plants.

you could soak them in an algaecide then replace them in the tank.

Brown algae/diatoms. Just wipe it off.

Okay, done. I'm glad that's all it is. I was fearing that there might be something wrong with the water, although the fish all seem healthy. Thanks, everyone.

Well now that we're on the subject are you staying on top of the water parameters since this is a new tank? Familiar with the concept of cycling?

No I'm not really familiar with the term. I get my water for my tanks directly from my well. I warm it up in a microwave before adding to the tanks. This procedure has worked for me for many years. Advice, I could always use some.
