I just got my new lighting in the mail. It is a 48" 4x65watt flourescent fixture. The fixture gets really hot (almost to hot to touch). There are two fans on it but they dont seem to do much. Is it normal for lighting like this to get really hot?

Here is the light:

my 2 x96 watt coral life gets hot, but it has four fans on it and it seems to be okay.

IS the light mounted above the tank (ie not resting on the glass). Getting the light up above in the air will help cool it down considerably. This normally can be done with a set of mounting brackets that raise the light 4 to 6 inches oof you tank.

It is on mounting brackets and (brilliant as I am) I just realized that I didn't actually have the fans on. It seems to be staying a lot cooler now.
