So I put those 2 danios in the 29.... I would buy two more, but then I would have to quarantine them..... is 2 danios enough to start the cycling process?

2 is enough. You could add 2 more if you want. Don't think it would make much of a difference. Did you just buy the 2 danios recently? If you did, I would just go back to the same petstore and get a couple more from the same batch, I wouldn't think you would need to quarantine them then.

Nah... these were the two I've had in my 10 gallon for about 2 years.....which is why I am apprehensive about buying more to put in my new tank.....but then again, Ive never caught disease from my petsmart.....

I'd add a few more. The more fish, the more ammonia. The more ammonia, the larger the bacteria colonies. The larger the colonies, the quicker they reproduce and the more ammonia they can handle.

In other words, cycling a 29g tank with 2 little danios would work...but then as you stock they tank you'll have to do so much more slowly, to allow the bacteria to reproduce to keep up with the added bioload.

This is why fishless cycling is so great. Adding large amounts of ammonia in th beginning means you can fully stock your tank right away once you're done cycling. Using fish for your cycle means you can only add one or two fish every week or so to give adequate time for the the bacteria to catch up with the bioload.

i like to use special blend. its live bacteria that cycle the tank fast. the only drawback is the 30$ price and the smell of it- rotten eggs+portapoty. nasty. however, a bottle lasts about a year or two

Of course it lasts a year if it smells like that!

...and why are you hanging around portapotties?! :c2:

Hope you don't use it on a hot day...e[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
