i know this has been brought up a number of times but i really want to know for myself. who has actually ordered fish online? how did they arrive? what are they packed in? it seems to me that as sensitive as fish can be to stress that they would be really over after traveling with our "gentle" "considerate" postal carriers. i have ran across some fish that i can't find locally and have considered doing an online order but it scares the hell out of me. any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have never actually bought fish online but most online fish stores are breeders and they are sold directly to the customer instaed of being shipped to the LFS first so it shouldn't be any worse than being taken to the LFS and then they don;t have the trauma of being transported to your home.
As for packing they would arrive how they arrive at the LFS in a polystyrene box with the fish in sealed bags of oxygen and water.

what a trip that must be. i guess they send them out on like a overnight deal so they aren't boxed up very long.

rly? i always imagined it being a big truck with fish tanks lined along the walls of the trailer and they would drop the fish off at like petsmart for pickup or u pay to have it delivered directly to ur house

Nope. Fish in the bag. Bag in the box. Thats the most efficient way to do it.

I've bought fish online. They do overnight the fish, and they are in plastic bags that have been filled with enough air to last them 24hours. When I placed mine in my tank, I took about 6 hours before I put them in the tank, and then I shut the lights off for a day, and that was the tough part. Mine made the shipment, and I didn't have any problems with stress.

It is actually really cool being able to order live animals like fish offline if you think about it. I know a reptile site that you can order any reptile you can imagine offline.
It's [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
Anyways about the fish, if you have a good LFS I would much rather buy them from there because then you get to see what you are buying and how healthy they are. I assume the fish from liveaquaria.com and such are maintained pretty well but I like to really see what I am getting before I buy it.
