Our 30-gal aquarium is getting a little lower than we'd like. I picked up a bottle of ]Top Fin Tap Water Dechlorinator ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.) a few days ago. While heading home, I realized that the bottle says nothing about its use regarding existing aquariums. All it says is, "Use two drops per one gallon of water."

Normally, I'd just leave a gallon jug out for 24 hours and wait it out. However, I thought having the dechlorinator would be a better idea -- and might work faster. However, I'm not so sure that's the case now.

Can I use this product on a jug, wait for a little bit, and then add the water -- or did I just waste two bucks on this product?
:)

Just follow the instructions and dump it on in. It works instantly.

While I don't buy anything with the "top fin" name on it (bad experiences with their tanks, filters, air pumps, etc) you should be fine using it in an existing tank.

I'll fill a 5g bucket with water of the same temp as the tank, and add the required amount of dechlorinator. Let it sit a few minutes and pour into tank--repeat as necessary. I've never had a single problem, and I've used at least a few different brands of dechlorinator.
I know people who use Python water changers that pour the treatment directly into their tank THEN add water. I'm not a fan of that idea, but they haven't had any problems to date.

Chloramine can also be found in tap water (not always, though). It is also harmful to fish. Does your topfin treatment work on chloramine as well?

Yes, actually, it does. And, after re-reading the bottle, it does say you can use it on existing tank set-ups. It doesn't give specific instructions, though (wait period and the like), so that's what worried me.

Thanks for the tips!
