View Full Version : What is a "jumbo" neon tetra?

Hello all (my first post).

I notice that there are some references to a "jumbo neon tetra".
The species names are always the same Paracheirodon innesi.

Are stores referring to the sale size (ie: jumbo = adult?)?

I've been waiting and watching to add neon tetras to my 10 gallon.
It is currently 4 months old with 2 albino cory's.
Amm 0, 'trites 0, 'trates 20. 74-76 Fahrenheit.
Aquaclear 20, plastic plants. Adding java moss this week.

Yup, jumbo around here means full grown. Also means 30% more expensive. LOL

EXACTLY the same here. The bigger ones should cost less, as they wont last as long. But, who thinks logically anymore? And besides, all they want is money anyway

This discussion is also going on in another thread but I think as the others. Jumbo's are applying to the size when sold.

Neons can live up to 10 years so I doubt a jumbo is going to make much of a difference in comparison to a non-jumbo. They all look the same to me though. Now if you compare a glowlight tetra to a jumbo glowlight tetra you can definately see the difference. Those fish get fat!

I saw some references in the Internet that Neons can live 10 years.
That's pretty shockingly long for a small fish.
Has anyone here actually owned Neons that lived that long?

I just got 10 of them for my 10 gallon tank. They are about 3/4 inch
long. This is the 6th day and so far so good. Colours are still bright.

my dad had 10 neon tetras all but one died within a few weeks. he then bought 5 more for the other one to school with but they avoided him and eventualy they all died except the same one knew it was him he was "jumbo"
anyway hes had that one all alone no school for 3 years now so id say its possible.
