deep sand

how do i make it so it looks like my sand has built up behind a piece of driftwood without making the sand to deep?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but you can probably just mound up the sand against the bottom of the wood. You could also probably just put a pile of some other substrate or a few rocks down then put the sand on that.
