I'm planning in the next year or so (depending on new house size) of building a 300g + plywood tank.
I plan on it being strictly a Cichlid tank with a lot of variety, thus offering a lot of room and caves for all to claim their own space...
I will have to do my homework on what will work together and who will not co-exist as well...
I would like to know what cichlids will work in a community tank right now...
I have a 29g with 4 clown loaches, Dwarf Gourami, 2 Rainbow Minnows, 2 Black fin Tetras, 2 Platys, Zebra Danio.
Water Parameters are: tank is cycled, believe i went through a headache with that process... 78 degrees, PH - 7.6
Any help would be great...
Thanks

WOW. You would have so many options with a tank that size. Do you want a centerpiece fish like an Arowana and built up on fish that would go with that species, or an all American Cichlid tank like Severums or mbuna's. Depends on if you like large fish or a tank of smaller ones. You will want something that will get along with your loaches as they will have to be moved into the bigger tank.
Frontosa are cool fish, too.

I know i'll have many options with the new tank...
I'm not lookin to have a centerpiece type fish like an aro (my wife doesn't like them) so looking strictly at cichlid...
Fronts are a definite along with Electric Yellows, firemouths.. I'm in the early stages of planning this out..
what could i put in my existing 29g with what i listed above that will co-exist and not destroy my existing fish? if nothing that's fine just want to see if there was anything...
I plan on keeping the 29g and keep it a freshwater tank and add some more smaller fish once the loaches get moved out.

Probably just SA's like Rams.. Not many options for Cichlids in a community 30 gallon as I've sadly found out.

Lol, this. Apistos and kribs would work too.
Though for the 300... You could do almost anything. :18:

I take it you're planning the 300g to be an African cichlid tank. That is awesome, and will allow you to have a ton of stocking options. Unfortunately, none of the African cichlids can go in your 29g. They would tear your current fish up and rapidly outgrow your tank. Best to wait and research all the cool species you can keep in a 300g.

If i had a tank of that size i would be looking into things that i could never keep due to size constraints. In the 29 i would reccomend keyholes, kribs or rams
