After neglecting the water lilies in the backyard pond for a few years I figured they needed some attention, so Labor Day I drained the pond. Several of the pots had been completely overgrown and clumped together, and there was one giant mass that actually covered half the bottom. It wasn't easy to separate the clumps, much less the plants themselves, but after about an hour they were broken down into manageable chunks. They're temporarily stored in a kiddie pool until I get some of them repotted in baskets of clay, but there are waaay more plants than I plan to put back into the pond. Most of the rhizomes are white or red plants, and extras are posted in the classified section.

Like the iceberg that sank the Titanic, most of the monster was below the surface. The black part is actually small roots, not dirt:
