View Full Version : Peat for lily?

I'm going to try to put a few lilies in my 75G indoor pond setup. I plan to drop the water level a few inches so that if/when they flower the blooms can be seen. A friend of mine thought that the gravel bottom might be a little hard for the plants though seeing as how they often grown in mud.

What do people think about this? I was planning on putting in the lilies with some root tabs but hadn't considered the roots might not like the gravel. As an alternative my wife suggested getting a terracotta pot filled 2/3 with sterile (boiled) peat, then topping it off with gravel to keep the peat down. Seemed like a possible solution but I get the feeling that the peat would make a mess in the tank.

Any thoughts from the peanut gallery? :hmm3grin2orange:
