I'm thinking of making a sponge filter for a 10 gallon shrimp tank. I also came across what I think is a corner box filter in the stuff i had. It has no filter media, so that has to be added. Will it work for a shrimp tank? Is the sponge filter better?

I consider sponge filters better for shrimp only tanks, because they can eat certain things in the media and most enjoy foraging over it.

lol- so do you think the filter is ok to use or the shrimp getting inside is a problem?

They seemed pretty content to me. Box filters don't hurt anything.

That seems good. Have you ever tried ceramic filter media?

I'd go with a sponge over a box BUT box filters work fine. There are some old school breeders out there that still use nothing but box filters with floss and gravel. If you're concerned about shrimp getting trapped then go with a sponge filter. I get mine off of eBay for about $3 shipped from Asia.
