Is anyone familiar with these "Frog-O-Spheres" being sold at Brookstone? They're roughly 6x6 plastic tanks with a cover with a small hole on top. They come with two African Dwarf Frogs, gravel on the floor, bamboo, and a supposed 2-year supply of food. Instructions say to feed each frog 2 pellets twice a week. The pellets are teenie tiny, though- about 1 cm by 1 cm.

I received one as a gift and have some concerns. Are these little tanks humane and healthy? Are the feeding instructions appropriate? Do I need a bigger tank with a filter? The frogs, Hans and Fritz, seem allright for now- very active and no obvious blemishes. If you have advice, please share so I can provide my lil buddies with a good home.

You should upgrade the tank, 5-10gallon with appropriate filter and heater if it's cold where you live..

Just signed the petition from Peta and sent it off. Unbelievable cruel! I have myself 3 ADF in my 10 gallon. It is a joy to watch them. They look good, are happy and have plants in there and shelter. They were only a little shy the first days, now they are swimming towards me at feeding time.

Wow, that's quite disgusting! They had a similar product like this here at like flea markets and fair type events. They didn't last long, and I haven't seen them for a looong time. They were so gimicy too, the b/s they would tell you, and tell you how the bamboo was excellent natural filtration!

Don't need a filter. Frogs breath air.

Still, a nice filtered tank with plants and fish is how I keep my frogs.

I cant believe they have been treating these frogs with so much cruelty! I'm definitely going to send an e-mail to brookstone.

Filter will help..That's why I suggested it. Bettas breathe air too..but aren't filters suggested? Yes.

Many frogs, and these aquatic frogs (ADF or ACF) in particular are native to stagnant water. They breath air with lungs and have very different biology than fish.

An African claw frog could be happy in 3 inches of coffee coloured muck. Stuff a betta wouldn't last a minute in.

One important consideration is that we as the viewers do prefer to SEE our pets! lol
