View Full Version : Crystal Darters
I have one and want to know if anybody else does. Also want do you feed it, how big it is, what's the setup it is in, and if you have successfully bred them. Mine eats regular tropical fish flakes but I read that most wild ones will only eat live food. Mine supposedly came in with ghost shrimp so I think it is wild and I bought it for $1. Mine has a unique personality because it usually swims over to the front of the tank to greet me, but, unfortunately is afraid of cameras.

i keep a few different types of darters i've fished locally (with the permission of the DNR) and they seem to be pretty hardy and will eat flakes and frozen foods, daphnia and other small live foods are readily accepted too!
Don't know anything about them but I do want to say to stubbytheplecostomus that it is FANTASTIC that you consulted the DNR before keeping naturally-occurring fish. Great job! Ecosystem first! :19:
Oh sorry, I didn't see Stubbys post. I just bought it at a fish store that is now out of business. Mine eats flakes, but I want to give it blood worms sometimes as a treat. Thanks for responding. I don't live where there are native darters and
how long did you have yours. I've read they only live several years.
Just found some information, cool looking fish. Sounds like they are in trouble in some areas, too. Protected in several states.

I've googled crystal darters a couple of times and seen both sites, but thanks anyway gm72.
Figures that I'd post the sites you've seen. Oh well, the info is there anyway!
