Does anyone have any experience with this filter?

I unearthed a 10 year old Whisper Tetra 20, but I suppose it's best to air on the safe side a buy a new filter to avoid the probable panic of the older one dying as soon as I get my fish.

What about the filters on this page:

I haven't bought a filter in ages. This one will be for a planned 10 g Neolamprologus multifaciatus tank.

That filter from F+S uses cartridges and in the long run will cost you more, I use the Aquaclear 20 on both of my 10 gallons. It does cost more but well worth it IMO. Both Big Al's and EBay run these filters on sale all the time.

Okay: so here's the old filter I found. Like I said, I'm pretty sure it's a tetra whisper filter from about 10 yrs ago. I screwed out the propeller/cord part (probably not the technical term, but anyways...) and put the plastic body in a bucket to soak in vinegar/hot water. Is that okay in terms of cleaning? Does it look like it's missing parts?

Does it have the motor?Impeller?Intake tube?

Motor and impeller...check. Intake tube, um don't think so.
There goes my plan to save some money, right? Probably isn't worth trying to chase down one of those.

I would go ahead and get the best filter you can honestly afford, chances are youd need to replace the impeller and get a new intake tube for a 10year old filter...not really worth it IMO.

I would probably look into a small canister filter such as the ZooMed 501, TomRapids Mini Canister, or a powerfilter such as an AquaClear 30. These filters are all around $30-40 but offer alot more media options and more media space than the cartridge style filters previously mentioned.
