Hey everybody,

So here we go, Biotope tank, Blind cave tetras. That means cave and reasonably sized tank as they are active and up to 12 cm in length. They're egg scatterers and do best in the dark. Not that the light bothers them but if i ever want to rear fry it sounds like the lighter their environment the more developed there eyes are in adulthood so I don't have to worry about proper lighting but rather proper dark-ing (forgive me). Now heres what I'm looking for help with. Does any one know an effective way to darken there tank but have it available for easy viewing? Any idea on what other fish live in the same cave systems, if there are any, or if a species tank would be best?

Thanks for your help

the blind cave tetras i have always seen on display had red lighting for their tanks.

I was thinking a red light or moon light for when I'm watching or showing them off but i think i might figure out some kind of wrap around cover to block the ambient light.

a moon light would be good too. i think painting the back and sides black would help to keep most of the natural light out of the tank and give an overall cave feel to the tank.

I'm thinking about doing this setup, I know this post is old but, I was thinking of using lava rock, using silicone and building it up against all the walls of the aquarium and just leaving two holes in the front of the tank to look in through, and using a red submersible light in a couple places in there.

You could've started your own topic . Sounds pretty cool, though. I just wonder how the lava rock will look with red light on it. Either look really good or be too red... I'd test it out before you start siliconing everything.
