As a rule, I don't dig down in my substrate around my plant roots, but now that I have completely switched over 2 tanks to this Floramax stuff, how should I vacuum it? Can I dig a bit? Or would that just suck it up the python?

On the plus side, the plants are growing like nobody's business in this stuff. I've only had it for about....3 weeks. An anubia that has taken me a year to reach sizeable er... size, and then was developing yellow leaves is throwing up new growth- at least 6 new leaves. Some of the crypts I bought melted a bit, but they are recovering, and the dwarf hairgrass seemed to die- but I'm leaving it with hopes it will recuperate!

You can dig it a bit. Some of it will probably get sucked into the python though. You can put a bucket on the python output that will catch anything that comes through. Then just return it to the tank when you're done.
