Ok... I am on a lunch break and I go in to peruse through Petco's selection just to watch some aquatic action... I run across to the Cichlid tanks and see what should be labelled a German Blue Ram as an Irridecent Cichlid.. does this exist or is it Petco being stupid Petco? They looked just like Male Germal Blue Rams.

Is it ok if I just feel sad that GBRs are being sold at the chains? :(

Yes... I feel your pain. I could never bring myself to purchase one from them... I would be afraid it would be diseased and die on me in 4 days.

Back to the question... Does this species exist or are they truely mismarking the fish?

well common names are just that. You can give a fish whatever kind of sales name you feel like. With that said, it doesn't seem to be a name that is used with any frequency whatsoever with any kind of fish, so it looks like it's a petco-exclusive name.

Iridescence is a optical phenomenon characteristic of many different species of fish. It's probably a store name for the cichlid because the staff were unable to place a proper indentification on the fish. If they looked like GRB, they probably were.

Okay... so unwilling to let things lay I went back there and talked to their "Fish Expert"... She proceeded to tell me "Oh no these aren't rams, these are Cichlids... its a completly different type of fish"

Might as well have... I went in there because I got 2 200 watt heaters from them for 11.00 a heater but after talking with them... SCREW GIVING PETCO ANY BUSINESS:22:
