A sticky idea

I have a question, and I grew tired of looking for the answer in past forum posts. So, I thought maybe I'd get one (or more) of the experts on here to respond and the moderator would consider making it a "sticky" as I'm sure many of us newbies would be interested.

I've seen mention of feeding various vegetables to livebearers, such as romaine lettuce, zucchini and bananas. I'm all for giving my fish as much variety and healthful foods as possible, but I'm not sure about the method for feeding these types of foods. I am VERY interested in learning how you guys feed these foodstuffs to your tropicals.

Well originally I didn't think about my Swordtails, when I put in the zucchini and romain lettuce. I put them in for my Plecos and Clown Loaches, but than I saw how crazy they went after it, too.

You can either use a suction cup clip that you can buy at the fs, or you can spear the food with a fork and drop the whole thing in the tank. The spoon keeps the food weighted down. If it stays down, others put food in a dish set on the substrate. You can use grabbers to fish the utensils out after. Some veggies ought to be lightly blanched to soften them before feeding.

All fish eat varities of foods, not just livebearers. Try different veggies and see what your fish like. Lettuce, green beans, peas, cukes, zucchini are just some of them.

Here's a thread started by KF where he was compiling what people feed to plecs. It is applicable to livebearers as well, and any other veggie loving fish.
