Hey guys, I've read the forum a lot, but this is my first time to post any thing.

This is a sponge filter that I made out of the tube that came with the 1 gallon tank. It was originally an under gravel filter.

Will this actually work, and do you think the air pump is creating enough flow through the sponge?

There is a female betta and a mystery snail in there right now, with a few of the plant bulbs from walmart. A few of them are starting to grow. I also ordered some java moss today.

Here are a couple more pictures

Sorry for the crappy phone pics

My first opinion is that it won't create enough draw through the tube.

Do you think if I took out some of the sponge and put the air stone a couple of inches deeper that it would be enough?

Youve missed the point. You need to direct the air flow from UNDER the tube to create flow. Im 95% sure this is what you need.

The sponge doesn't really belong in the tube. The tube is placed into the sponge with the air stone placed as far down the tube as possible to draw water through the sponge.
