I picked him up today, he's hanging out in my 120, not doing much of anything. I'm gonna post some pics in a minute, but I also have some questions (I have done research, I just never figured these things out)

1. He's about 2 inches, maybe 3. How fast can I expect growth?
2. He's in the corner, doing that "sitting" that cichlids will do, hovering above the ground in the corner, is this part of acclimation? There is some decor in there. What are some signs of things not going well?
3. Is an aquaclear 110 enough filtration for him to start out?
4. What's the optimal pH range for a Severum?

Is your 120 cycled? If so, the AC110 should suffice for a bit. He'll grow quick with all that room. You should look to invest in more filtration for the future when you want more fish and your fish get larger. It's easy to overfeed when you only have one fish, you might want a bottom feeder that will do well with cichlids like a pim. pictus or pim. blochii (would be best).

Give him a few days to settle into his new home and acclimate.. they like a low-neutral ph.

I'm adding the filter from my 55 and getting a canister when i can. The 120 is cycled, and has some anubias to work with any slight nitrate spikes. Pictus cats are in my stocklist, they were just more expensive, so I got the sev first. I'm hoping that he can catch up to my geos, they can be bullies at around 5".

I'd get him some buddies, he's probably not very happy if he's all by himself in that tank.

Once he acclimates I'm adding my acara from my 55g for company, then my pleco, then some pictus cats, then my geophagus, then a pair of senegal bichirs. Come christmas I'll be adding a canister filter and some silver dollars.

Is 75 degrees warm enough for a couple days? He seems to have acclimated a bit.

If given enough space, which he obviously has, fed well, with good water quality, expect very, very fast growth. My first sevey I got in April and he was the size of a half dollar piece. He's now easily bigger than my hand.

Mine grew from 2" to a bulky 7" since April...do expect around 1" per month in length and theyll really start adding bulk around 5". Sounds like a good stock, should be a nice tank!

^Pic of the Severum, starting to show some good colour. :D
I'm adding the acara to the 120g today, we'll see how they get along! :)

UPDATE: I added the acara, and they are shoaling together. From my experiences cichlids don't usually shoal. They're always together, and both fish are showing amazing colours. I am confused as to what they're doing, because the acara sure as heck didn't shoal with my angel or geos.
