Saw this photo this guy took of his plant after having it two years!

Mine is not a heck of a lot larger than the day I bought it 2 years ago.

They grow slow so this one at 2 years old is pretty shocking. It's small in height but not growth, for sure.

WOW mine looks nothing like this, i cant get it to attach to a rock or driftwood let alone carpet the tank with it.

Actually Anubias var nana grows quickly under ideal conditions. However it is not very hardy and not expected to grow quickly so it is often kept in less that optimal conditions They can grow at least 1 inch a month (which isn’t fast in comparison to many other plants, but that allow them to quickly cover a large part of the tank.)

My experience says that the ideal place to plant a nana is on a rock directly in front of the inlet of the filter and allowing the water from the outlet to flow just above it. It should not be shaded. Temperature around 25, water chemistry seems to be of little importance but I have seen a little better growth in soft water. Under these conditions your plants should cover at least 10 x 10 inch in a year and can reach almost twice that.

Wow! (drooling with envy) - that is an incredible nana!! William - thanks for the tip - I'm going to try this on my nanas - maybe they will start growing better. Looks like this speciman may have grown right over the substrate. I have a sword that does that- grows right over the edge of the rock and takes off across the top of the gravel.

Keep an eye on craiglist. atleast in Sweden you can plants like that for free every now and then

William, over here you would pay $8 for anubias about 5" long and then have another $7 for shipping.

High light and CO2 with good fertilization will do that for any plant. Im always impressed my anubias grow 2-3 new leaves a week muchless as much as that one must have grown :hmm3grin2orange:

You would in Sweden as well if you bought one in the stores. But there isn´t much of a second hand value and allways a lot of stuff available for free. Rift lake Cichlids are extremely popular in sweden and hence there is a lot of Nana floating around, same with java fern and crinum.

At the LFS it's $7-$10 for a piece 1-2 inches long. What would that thing be worth? Maybe this person should start an aquaculture side business if he can grow it like that.

I planted mine down on the AP.com substrate and its 6" longer then it was in may when I planted it. root tabs, liquid ferts and a good substrate make then grow larger. No rhizomes buried just the roots head down into the gravel and produces 1-2 leafs every 3-4 days now.
