I maybe getting a 55g tank to replace my 25g long. I was thinking of putting sand in. Currently in my 25g i have 2 barracudas, 2 tinfoil barbs, 1 dwarf gouramis. I also have 2 shrimps and 1 mystery snail. I was wondering if a snail could live in sand, or if the shrimp could. I love planted tanks, so i was wondering if live plants could live in sand? Another one of my questions, is could I possible get another tinfoil barb? So far they are about 3 inches long, and i could get another that big. I heard they get about 14 inches big and my barracudas wiould get to 12 inches. I'm guessing im going to have to get rid of my gouramis as it probably will get eaten by something. If i cant put in any other fish, could i add snails/shrimps? I saw a few great deals on cherry shrimps. Something like 20 shrimps for 20 bucks got my attention. If you guys need any info let me know. Thanks to all the people who read the whole post and will answer a question or two!

snails dont mind sand and plants like sand.

When all your fish get big, theyre gonna need much more than a 55g. the 'cudas and barbs get large and in charge!

Really?? I heard some people got barracudas because it was rare they got over a foot or so.. Ive never had a 55g so i was thinking it was enough. Ill see what i could do. I bet theyd much rather be in a 55g than a 25g. I almost feel bad for putting them in a 25!

im sure you could pull it off in a 55g for a long time though. I have lots of fish in my 55g now since i have major filtration

You can get the Play Sand from Home Depot for about 100 pounds for $10. You just have to rinse it several times before using it.

I havent checked the sand at home depot yet, i probably will this weekend. Im probably going to look for darker sand, or maybe beach colored. I still have to talk to my mom about it tho. Last night at dinner my uncles came and told me they had an old 55g with filters and stuff..I just need about 200 bucks..( a stand and to pay my mom back for the 25g..) I also saw a few dwarf cichlids on the internet so they get their turns after the cudas and barbs lol.
