It was killing me to have my 55 gallon set-up without a pleco in it. So I fixed that yesterday on my way home from work. My LSF had some super red BN plecos in for about a month now. I did a little research and got some great advie from Toddnbecka and decided he would be a good addition to the tank.

I’ve started to put cucumber in the tank for. Hopefully he’ll catch on to it soon. This guys is really active making it really hard getting a pic.

I've never heard of a red BN. Looks great. I also like to gold stripe pleco. Did you QT him or just add him right away?

Only over night. My QT tank started leaking at one of the seams so I moved him in the 55 gallon this afternoon. Normally I like to QT for about 2 weeks. But this tank leaked about 2 gallons in 24 hours so I was very concerned it would could get worse (not to mention the water leaking everywhere).

I had sold my 10 gallon tank that I had set aside for a QT tank and when I tested my 20 gallon after buying it used, I didn't leave the water in it long enough to notice the leak.

I DO NOT recommed doing this. My LFS is the only place I will buy fish from as they have the best looking fish and tanks. Still to risky to do.

Lesson learned for me.

Don't QT or don't not QT? It's too bad about the leak.

I'd never heaed of a red pleco before. How big is he? He's pretty neat.

I am unable to find much information on them. Do they get very big?

I had to do a lot of research on these guys, info is not easy to find. By all accounts they are just a average BN pleco, but they are red in color. He/She should get around 5" in size. From what I was able to research, the red coloring is a recessive gene in the bread. That would make these guys prone to health problems resulting from inbreeding. I’ll have to keep a really close eye on this guy as he would be more sensitive to the environment around him.

Looks just like the 60+ little ones I have growing out now. Here's a fresh pic of a few hanging out behind a net breeder containing eggs (now wigglers) from the monster BN in the 75. I found one of the 6.5" males with a new clutch of eggs on Monday when I was rounding up the extra red males to ship out. They had all hatched when I looked last night.

Promise82, check out your local Petland if you have one in your city (which I beleave is Edmonton). Their supplier can sometime get these guys in for you.
