i just got this cichlid yesterday it was labeled as an african cichlid. i know ive heard that sometimes its hard to truly id them sometimes i have a pic up (its decent not great) and hopefully somebody will be able to help id what type of chichlid this is (please?)....its doing really well its acclimated perfectly and is eating and hiding in the piece of fake coral i set in the tank. im new to cichlids so im taking my time and gaining more knowledge before stepping pu to bigger and better setups. any info is appreciated :ssmile:

Any chance you can get a bigger picture up, cant really tell what it is.

Could be an Mbenji blue
could be a Cynotilapia sp lion

will need a bigger picture though cos cant really tell sorry

sure ill get a bigger pic up as soon as i can catch it sitting still these guys can move (i didnt know they were that fast)

Looks to be a Lab hybrid. Possible caeruleus x estherae. No way to be sure.

yeah i read that when you buy from big box stores 9 times out of 10 its going to be a hybrid but oh well i still like it

It is hard to find quality stock when shopping with the big chains. Especially when it comes to cichlids. That doesnt necassarily mean they are all hybrids or poor quality fish , but the chances are much higher. With that said the Petco in the next town over carries beautiful P.socolofi. Much nicer than the socolofi my LFS carries. Nice dark barring on the fins with brilliantly colored clean blue bodies.
