Hey all. Well, I just bought 2 Sunset platy's 2 days ago. I believe one is pregnant! I can't take a good picture of them at all as they both swim around. One is WAY bigger in the mid section then the other however, they both look like females (have fan tail shape fins in the back).. They both are in a tank with 5 other danio's, and are following around each other like none other. They are very pretty fish.. If she is pregnant, how should I go about keeping the babies. I only have one 10 gallon tank but I do have a fish bowl probably about .5-1 gallon. Thanks for any advice!

The chances are good she is pregnant. There is really not much you can do. Add some floating plants for cover. Some of the babies may survive.

My platies get huge when they are pregnant and if you want the fry to survive give them lots of hiding places. I have used small flat rocks 1-4 inches in size stacked in a corner gives them lots of little nooks and crannies to hide in. Worked so well that I had to take the rocks out because now I'm being overrun with fry.

Wow I used to keep platies and one was pregnant and all it did was hang out under plants and didnt do much. Unfortunately got to the fish too late and it gave birth and all the fry were eaten. You can try a breeder net or box. Unfortunately the fry will outgrow this and you will just have to move them to the tank and hope you don't have cannibal parents!!!:18: Good luck though it sounds exciting!

They eat their children, he ratbags. Not like angels or corys. It's the one reason I've always bought same gender livebearers.
Still, you know... you have cheap and very effective breeder boxes.
Fry slips thru the floor slits into the tank with the mum still in the upper pen. Can't keep her there indefinitely though.
