Almost 3 years ago, one of my female guppies gave birth to a male that could change color. His tail would be yellow most of the time, but would change quickly to another color. Sky blue, orange, pink, white, even different patterns, yellow with a black spot, and pink with a yellow border.
Sadly, he died along with all my other guppies that carried the trait. I did find some more, in the snapping turtle tank at the San Diego Zoo. Then, I found a thread that was started the fall of the year the guppy died on this site. What I'm asking is for people to start looking for these guppies, especially breeders, so a color changing strain is established. The trait is popping up in more guppies since mine was born, which is the first to be recorded (there are no records that can find before he was born). I've started calling them spectrum guppies, since they change color all the time. Please look for them.

I was wondering if you could take a picture of this fish and show us. Try to get him with his different colors, i would love to see this fish.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to spend 3 years looking for a guppy who's trait is only to die. I think I would have moved on to something else by now with a better history.

Its the first time I hear of such a guppy!
A Chameleon guppy or any other Chameleon fish would be rather interesting.

The only time my guppies ever change color is when they are dead.:14:

Well, all my guppies died when I put them out in my pond. I do it every summer since they breed faster and more fry survive. They all were sucked into a pump that I had out there since my pond pump (fish safe) broke.
Also, there is a chameleon fish. The Badis badis can change its color to match its surroundings. It is a relative of the Betta, and is available for aquarists, but I can't find any around here.
