I am going to try a CO2 system on my 90 gallon tank. I can’t afford a compressed gas CO2 system right now so I’m going to try a DIY system. I found a lot of great examples of how to build these in our DYI forum so I’m good there. I’m only going to be using one 2 litre bottle for now on my moderately planted 90 gallon.

Since this is not a compressed gas system, you can’t turn it off at night when the plants are not consuming CO2. One of the solutions that I’ve found is to added an air bubbler on a timer to come on at night when the lights are off. But I’m thinking that really won’t cut it and the bubbler is likely not even needed.

I’ve learned that good surface agitation provides better oxygenation than a bubbler. So… If I have goo surface agitation provided from my FX5 and XP spray bars (pics below), should I still add a air bubbler ?

Dont worry about it, no way you make enough CO2 in a tank that size with a DIY system with one bottle to hurt any fish. It can not posilbly produce enough CO2 to get any where near the danger levels of 100ppm.

Thanks Rich.

I just wanted to make sure.

I'm starting off slowly here. I'll add another DIY bottle to the system once I know what I'm doing with a one bottle system. Just starting off small and slowly working my way from there.

Yeah, and the fx5 gives a lot of surface movement, you will be fine. You always got to start somewhere.
