I have a beautiful young pair of salvini. 6 weeks ago I put them into a 30 inch breeding tank and hoped they would get down to business, but sadly nothing seems to be happening. There is a cave in the tank which they both go in and a sponge filter. the temperature is 80. They seem to display to each other and there has been some lip locking, not sure if that is fighting or part of courtship. I would be grateful for any advise to how I can encourage them to breed. Many Thanks in advance, Paul.

A 30" tank is abit small for a breeding pair of salvini. If the male (or female) suddenly develops an attitude there's nowhere for the other fish to escape. In any case, try feeding them frozen bloodworms to condition them for spawning. Sometimes a drop in water temp will also trigger spawning. Try doing a large partial water change with cooler water.
