i've had a few tanks in the past, and i just purchased a new eclipse system6 tank(pretty nice tank) my question is in the past all the tanks i've had, they all have had a little air pump, and this tank didn't have one with it, it has a filter system, do i really need an ait pump?

welcome to ac.
You generally do not need an airpump.
Download the free e-book from the menu on the left, it has valuable info. on setting up a new tank.

thanks for your help, would it hurt anything if i added one? i have a old ford truck i got from petsmart, and it requires an air pump for a couple of features, and i thought it'd be cool if i can get it to work

How big is your tank? Petsmart has decorations in their tanks that they keep the fish in and the decorations (usually a clam or alligator design) that blast these HUGE bubbles that rock the entire tanks water every 5 seconds. I can't imagine how stressed those fish are having to deal with an earthquake of an air bubble 24/7.

A small tank nicely stocked does not need additional air as much as heavily stocked tanks. But if you want to add a pump, you can buy one for $10.

If you buy a small pump it wont hurt anything. Then your truck can have bubbles coming out of it

Your aeration accessory will not hurt at all and will add decor to your set up.
