View Full Version : Barricudas
I looked at a website and saw freshwater barricudas that only get 8 inches. How
do you care, breed, and feed them. I want one because they look like gars but almost all get to big for a tank that isn't GIGANTIC!

I have 2 of them, both 5 inches each. I read they got to about a foot long..I keep them at a ph of 7.5, temperature of 75, with 2 tinfoil barbs, 1 dwarf gourami, one mountain shrimp, a common 5 inch pleco, and a mystery snail. Breeding them is VERY rare but possible ( i think) I feed them comets or sometimes feeder guppies. I buy one dozen per week and a half. Sometimes they will eat ALOT less tyhan usual so i get the feeder guppies. After i do that they start eating like monsters again. A tank about 55g would be pretty good for them, but of course...the bigger the better.

I used to have hujeta gars( fw barracuddas). I had to sell them to the lfs since the bigger tank i was supose to get wasnt available anymore...But they were pretty cool. The pair i had would eat 1 or 2 inch goldfish and small feeder guppies. If you have alot of patience you can try getting them to eat pellets but i had given up that idea after a week lol. If you ever get some i suggest nothing that will fit into its mouth or ita gone...even the 5 INCH polypterus senegalus i had with them. I had to take what stuck and drag it out of the cuddas mouth. Goodluck lol.

Lol what size tank is required to have just 1?

Recommended at least 5 feet long tank. So a 125g if using a common size which gives you 6 feet.
