Hey all. I want a top for my tank with a light in it. Problem is, my filter sticks aways out so I'm not sure how/what to do about this. Any advice would be nice! Thanks!

You can get a plastic full hood canopy or a glass top with a strip light. The plastic full hood has sections along the back of it you can cut out to fit your filter and other equipment. The glass top has a strip of clear plastic along the back you cut to fit your equipment.

Great.. Should I buy it online or should I just go to my fish store and buy it. If online, could you give me a website of the one I need? Thanks!

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/ is a fairly popular online store. Also http://www.bigalsonline.com/

It might be cheaper for you to go to and get a 10g kit. Buying the hood with a light or a glass top with a light, plus add in shipping costs, it may end up costing you more. Check out walmart and petsmart, find out how much a 10g kit is. I think petsmart has one on sale for cheap right now, a kit will come with a hood /w light, filter and a tank. Probably looking at around $25-30.

Do I have to have a hood for tetras? Those are the fish I've decided to get...

I would personally check out ebay as well, it is always a good idea to have something to keep the fish in the tank and a light so you can see the fish if nothing else to make sure everyone is healthy. With that said all of my tanks are open top as I use fixtures that mount above the tank...but I have alot of floating plants to help keep the fish inside the tank.

But for your 10G, this is about as cheap as you will find...

These incandescent fixtures will accept household CFL 15watt daylight bulbs so you could grow darn near any live plant you wanted as well.
