I have a 5g with a white cloud in it. It's at 72 in the morning and 78 in the evening. It gets way to hot. Any suggestions?

a house desk fan should be able to keep it cool enough

Have the light on during the cooler parts of the day.

+1 to both above. Plus take the lid off. If it is only temporary due to the weather you could add a frozen juicebox to the tank and swap it out for another when it is thawed. Might be a lot of trouble for one white cloud.

Consider restocking with tropical fish before next summer. ;)

You can get a small clip on fan from walmart for a few dollars. That should help nudge the tank down a degree or two. You'll increase the evaporation rate, but at least the temp will go down some.

If you're worried about taking off the lid because of fish jumping out of the tank, you can make a fairly simple screen lid for the tank. At any hardware can pick up a window screen kit, make it the size you like and use pond netting or even bird netting for the screen material. Did this for my tanks and use the screen lids during the summer months to keep the temperature in check.

Put the tank in a cooler spot in the house possibly. If you got a light on the tank, turn them on later in the evening when it's less hot out.

I keep my 5g Cooler stocked with beer...:hmm3grin2orange: :14: (just kidding)...

I'd move the tank to the basement...

Thanks! I'll try some of your suggestions. I'll put an ice cube in the tank each morning to make sure it stays cool.

I think for a few warmer months peaking at 78 is not all that bad. Leave the lights off during the day and all should be well.

Ice cubes made of dechlorinated water right? Not sure how effective that would be.

This is why I suggested frozen juice boxes. But really, another white cloud will cost what, $0.50?

Truthfully, the permanent solutions are to move the tank or to get something that can live in it.

I wouldn't add any fish. White clouds are very active (and schooling) swimmers, so as it is, I don't think I'd want to keep one in a 5g tank.

Mine are in my community tank and are at that temp 12 months a year.

Incandescent light? If so replace it with cfl and it will stop heating the water so much.

Incandescents should fall under "heating" and not "lighting" imo :hmm3grin2orange:
