As of right now i have 3 suriname geophagus (about 4 inches each)
1 firemouth (just under an inch but i expect him to grow fast now that hes all healed)
7 zebra danios (wouldnt hurt my feelings if they got eaten)
1 rubberlip pleco.

the only 2 things at the local store that i have any interest in is green terrors which i know are considered to be a bit aggro but they are tiny, most under an inch and i figure at that size if one starts a fight the geos will quickly put it in its place. The other one is green severums, i have actually been to the store twice now to buy one and decided at the last second both times that i didnt want one.

I would order online but the cost of shipping is keeping me from doing it. If anyone has any good suggestions of fish i could add that are fairly easy to find i would love to get some advice. Or you could just talk me into the severum or give me tips on how to keep the gt in check.

Severum are a great tankmate for geos.

I've got three severum with 6 geos (among other fish) in my 125 and they are quite happy. Everyone gets along really well and there has never been any signs of a squabble.

But if you're not into severum there's obviously other fish you can look into. Chocolate cichlids, uaru, and if you like the green terror, you might want to check out blue acaras. They look similar to green terrors but are much more peaceful.

Definitely try to go with more peaceful cichlids, though, since you've only got the one firemouth. They're peaceful on their own but if paired can get aggressive while spawning.

i figured someone would be more then happy to give me a suggestion or two. I would definately look into an acara but ive actually NEVER seen one for sale ever. Been looking at salvini, i can get them in phoenix, any opinions there, i would like to get my hands on one of those as i think they are stunning. And they also have another one of my dream species though festae cant work in this tank.

I keep reading the description "moderately aggressive" reffering to salvini.

Sals can be hit or miss aggression wise. I currently have a juvenile female in my 75g and she's quite mellow so far. I really like her. Acaras are awesome too, I have a yellow acara and am very tempted to get a blue.

In a tank that size, a GT may work with your geos. Just have a back up plan in case it doesn't. Other cool cichlids are uaru and keyholes. And I totally hear you on the festae, one day I hope to have a tank big enough for one.

Dont forget other small CAs like Sajica and Rainbow Cichlids...as well as other species of Geos. Geophagus really do their best in groups of 5-6+ :22: Even fish like angelfish will work with them.

so lets say i go and pick up a trio of these guys

would they group up with the surnamensis or would it be like 2 separate groups. Sajicas look like something i might like if i can just find em.

They will probably hang together alot of the time, or atleast my G.pindare and G.abalios shoal together most of the time...as do most species. Re-aranging the tank will probably help when adding the new guys as well.

those are a bit pricey but i think they look pretty awesome. I think ill try it. They only flipped out when i added something once. Since then ive added fish twice without any significant incident. That would make 6 total geos, probably be good on them then can find one more different fish to top it off?

One of our German members who hasn't been around for awhile had the Sajica.

You can see hers here. Neat fish. Hers shared a tank with firemouths.

Sajica are amazing little cichlids, and for a CA are rather peaceful. Another nice relative of the Sajica is the Cutteri...they are a bit more common.

I would look into some shoaling species as well...they will help your geos feel more secure...large tetras in a group of atleast 12 would be nice. You could add several more fish to the mix IMO with proper filtration. I would also look into Chocolate cichlids and a group of Uaru...Uaru however must be kept in a shoal to do well as they can be very timid cichlids when housed alone.

i think im going to go get the salvini, ill give it a shot and hopefully i can find one that i think is female in the mix. They are only about an inch each so that could be tough. While im there im going to get a trio of the geos to bring my total count to 6. After i make sure that im not cycling over again ill likely get some silver dollars or maybe some sort of medium sized barb or giant danios. Uarus are cool but they get huge and i hear they are super sensitive to water conditions, not that mine are bad but i dont feel like i want to have a potential problem.
