I bought the smaller of the two white crayfish at a LFS and when the employee put it in the bag to take home, I noticed some dark round things hanging off the crayfish underbelly.

It wasn't until I got home that it clicked - She had eggs! I think the two white crayfish the LFS had were from the same supplier and I'd bet money the one I didn't buy was a male. SOO, I got super excited and thought I got one hell of a deal. Whole boatload of albino crayfish for $26.00. About 5 days after I got her home, all the eggs disappeared. :(

That was about 24 days ago. Well, last night I was watching my lovely tank and noticed a small white thing moving behind one of my baby mollies. I HAVE CRAYFISH BABIES!!

Looks like at least two from what I can see. I thought for sure none of them made it. I'm shocked I haven't seen them before now... I have a pretty good eye.

Mama Ninja turned out to be such an awesome buy alone (lots of personality) so I'm ecstatic about having more and just had to share the news!

you plan to separate them? I imagine mamma will go after them sooner or later.

That's kinda what I thought happened to them to begin with... that maybe she just ate them all??

No, I don't plan on separating them. It's a fairly natural tank; descent size piece of drift wood with moneywort, hygrophila, and anarachis - and two small clay pots. I figure if they've survived this long, it can't be all that bad of an environment :P

Quick question: If the parents were both in fact white crayfish, what do you think the odds are that the babies will be white adults as well? Because it looks like almost all tiny baby crayfish look kinda white to begin with...

Ya know, the funny thing is I'm 3 months prego and I can pretty much guarantee I was more excited when I found out about my baby crayfish than my pregnancy! O_o
