Just did my first water change since the tank has fully cycled.
my readings are
ammonia 0.0ppm
Nitrite 0.0ppm
Nitrate 5.0ppm
all of a sudden after the water change the water has gone milky white, i cleaned the filters in the water i had taken from the tank i dechlorinated the water before i put it in the tank i don't know what i have done wrong. I am guessing its a mini bateria bloom because of the water change but could someone tell me please, is it normal or have a messed it up?

probably just some particles from moving things around. Should be nothing to worry about, but if it lasts for more than 2 days somethings up

I'm with cocoa_pleco on this. Its really easy to stir up the pot when you do any maintenance. I have a heavily planted, heavily stocked 30 Gallon that turns into a swamp every other time I clean it!

When I really redecorate my tank I always have a real fog in it. But sometimes I really think it looks great, gives the tank some mysterious atmosphere. In my case its debris, dust from the sand, and just sheer fish s**t.
Normaly it goes away in max. 2 days.

I had the same problem a week after I set up my 120G, I tried water changes every couple of days to no avail, in my case, the cycle was the problem, so I tried hanging a stocking with used filters in, no great change, then the local LFS put me onto this stuff

Water was clear next day, and I have not had a prob since, I know some people will say these things don't work, if that is the case, I must have picked up a magic bottle, cause it worked for me:thumb:

you probably created a mini cycle by cleaning the tank and the filters at the same time. after a tank is cycled you should only do enough of a water change to get your nitrates down (if they are high) and do nothing else. add your fish and allow the tank to compensate for the bioload before doing any gravel or filter cleaning, and even then do a partial filter cleaning.

Sergo is absolutely right. You are experiencing what's called New Tank Snydrome. It's from doing too much cleaning on a newly cycled tank. Leave it alone and it will clear up again in a few days. You have simply removed too much of the needed bacteria and it needs to replenish itself.
I don't usually vacuum the gravel in a new tank for at least a month, that seems to help avoid the cloudiness of the water, I assume, by not disturbing the bacteria living in the gravel. Gives the tank some time to stabilize.
